For me the two most important pieces of equipment are waterproof boots and a backpack to hold my camera equipment. I use a Lowepro Nature trekker back pack.
If I plan to do a lot of macro shots I'll also bring a camouflage blanket. I can lay on the blanket when photographing or I can use it as a backdrop for my subject.
